FAQ

Prior to filling out the online application, you must review this page and check the box on the bottom of this page.

How long does it take to get a car?

It’s impossible to say for sure because it depends on so many variables. We rely on quality vehicle donations, and we are at the mercy of the donating public.

Once the MM application is completed, the member qualifies to have their application reviewed. Once a vehicle becomes available, our team usually begins reviewing the applications of our members. If you are selected for a vehicle the vehicle goes through a checklist with a licensed mechanic, if repairs are needed, MM determines the cost and worth of the vehicle. If repairs are reasonable, they are completed and covered by MM. Then the car then gets cleaned inside and out and then is ready for title transfer to our recipients. This process at minimum can take several weeks. The recipient is responsible for meeting one of our team members at the Lakewood Ranch tax collector's office for title and tag transfer of the vehicle. At this time the recipient will need proof they have purchased car insurance for the vehicle they will be receiving before the tile can be signed over. MM covers the cost of tag and title but does not cover insurance costs of any kind.

Who is Miracle Motors?

Miracle Motors 941, Inc. is a 501-C-3 non-profit charity. Federal EIN 92-3022246. Visit the “Who we are” page for more details.

Is this website/program/opportunity for real?

Yes, MM was founded by a mom of three who is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and a psychology teacher for college students. She saw a gap in the need for safe reliable transportation in our surrounding counties. With used car prices up 53% and new car prices up 29% over the last few years those that are working full time are still not able to afford transportation. MM mission is to extend a hand to individuals that are hard working but can not afford a vehicle of their own. Florida's heat and frequent rains, limited and longer than ideal bus travel, opening up job opportunities and getting to medical health appointments and family activities make it difficult if you dont have four wheels.

Can I just buy one of your Cars?

No one can purchase a charity car.  We do not ever sell these “gifted” vehicles.

I already have a car. Can MM help pay to repair it?

Unfortunately we cannot offer monetary assistance for repairs to vehicles you already have.

I have an old car that is inoperable or close to it, can I still apply for a car? Am I eligible to get a car?

Having a car does not necessarily make you ineligible to apply for or get a car through our program in certain situations.

We provide vehicles to struggling families and individuals who do not have sustainable transportation. This means you can not possess a vehicle that you drive daily that is in good working condition and still get a vehicle from us.

There are many people who have cars that are inoperable, or close to it and they can still get a car from us.

I am a victim of domestic violence and / or I am a private person. What is available for public viewing? Is my MM application or my name made public?

The MM private application is not made public, and is only viewable by a MM team member. We understand the need for privacy.

I don’t have access to a computer/internet. Can I still apply for a car some other way?

Unfortunately, you can not. You will have to have a computer/internet access to sign up and apply for a car. There are no other ways to apply for a vehicle.

MM is under pressure from our repair shops to get the cars removed ASAP as they have limited storage space available. The MM website gives us the ability to quickly identify qualified recipients and complete the transfer of title so the vehicles can be picked up promptly.

I am in immediate need of a car and I can not wait. How can I get a car quickly?

We are at the mercy of the donating public, so we never know if, when, where or what type of vehicle will become available. We do not have an inventory of vehicles readily available as we award cars as quickly as we get viable gifted cars. There is NO guarantee of a vehicle and there may be an extensive waiting period for those who do receive vehicles. If you are in immediate need of a vehicle due to employment or medical crisis etc.. our program may not be for you.

How will I be contacted if I am chosen to receive a charity car?

MM will call the contact numbers listed on your application. If you don’t answer we will leave a message (In case you are screening your calls, our area code is 941). If we do not hear from you within 24 hours we will email you. If we do not receive a call back from you within 48 hours of our first call we will choose another member.

If I am chosen can FCC pay for my insurance down-payment /tag / title / registration fees/emissions/ etc.?

Unfortunately MM can not help recipients with these fees. The recipient will be responsible for maintaining insurance and vehicle maintenance/upkeep.

Does MM verify members to ensure that they are truly in need and qualify?

Whenever we select a member for review to receive a vehicle we authenticate and verify their story and the information contained in the MM application to ensure that they qualify.

I have issues with the MM Terms & Conditions / the MM website concept / the way MM chooses recipients / the application process / the color of the sky, etc…

We wish we could make everyone happy but we do the best we can. Every aspect of our program has been born from invaluable experience. We love everyone and our beautiful city and hate disappointing anyone, but if our program does not resonate with you, please forgive us. We wish you much peace and joy.

Is it time consuming or is there a cost to donate to Miracle Motors?

No. There is no cost to you, the donating part; in fact, you can take a tax deduction. We make the donation process quick and easy. Cars are typically picked up within a few days of your submission and approval.

We accept vehicles accessible to us within Sarasota or Manatee county.

Can I donate a high value vehicle, classic or antique car?

Your high valued vehicle donation could help us raise money for our non-profit.

What do I need to donate my car to Miracle Motors?

You must have your certificate of a clean title and the keys. Please note that the registration is NOT the title. If you can’t find the title, you will need to obtain a duplicate copy from the Department of Motor Vehicles.

What do I do with my car’s certificate of title?

You need to sign at “Signature of Seller” to transfer ownership. If you are unsure, ask the vehicle processor for more details.

What else should I write on the certificate of title?

Nothing. We will fill out the rest of our information to ensure correct information and to eliminate any potential for mistakes. Mistakes require a “Letter of Correction” and slow down the processing of your car donation.

Do I need to be there when my car is picked up?

No. On the day of pickup, leave the keys under the driver side mat and phone contact must be made before pickup. A team member can pick up your car and email a receipt. Don’t forget to remove your plates and any personal belongings, including garage door openers, phone chargers and any other items. We cannot ensure that these will be returned if left in the car.

How do I get my car donation started?

You can donate your car by clicking here

How does the tax deduction work?

When you donate a car you receive a 1098-C form and your deduction depends on what is done with the vehicle. Most charities send the car to the auction and whatever it sells for is your deduction while Miracle Motors is able to give you fair market value. If the car is going to a recipient in need, which most of our cars do, you get retail value from Kelly Blue Book, NADA, or Edmunds. Print off that sheet and attach it to your 1098-C when you file your taxes. If the car does not run and is scrapped, we value it at $500.00.

Please note: Miracle Motors cannot put a value on the vehicle; ultimately you must do that, and we advise checking with your tax consultant for specific direction.

Miracle Motors will state what it is doing with the vehicle on the 1098 c form.

Does every donated car find a home with a resident of Sarasota or Manatee county?

On rare occasions, we find that some vehicles are not cost-effective to give away. This will hinder our main goal, which is helping hardworking individuals receive a safe reliable vehicle. We do our absolute best to make the most of every vehicle donated but reserve the right to turn down a vehicle donation for any reason.

MM makes every effort to give as many donated vehicles as possible to working individuals. However, not all donated vehicles received are feasible to repair or meet our “mechanically sound and safe” standard. The decision on which vehicles are eligible for re-donation is based upon many factors, including overall condition, age and mileage, reconditioning, repair costs and location.

Some donations are sold or scrapped for parts for cash.MM appreciates each and every donation, as the money raised from these efforts is fully directed to the repair other vehicles that will be distributed to less fortunate individuals.

Remember, you have any more questions about the deduction, talk to your tax professional. Below are a few resource links of reference for your convenience.
